NEW MUSIC: Officially released today, an album entitled “Baila que Baila” from JOSE RIZO’S MONGORAMA!

“Baila que Baila” is the second album from Jose Rizo’s Mongorama. Their first received the 2012 Grammy Nomination in the Latin Tropical Jazz category!

The dream band became reality for Jose Rizo, who is not only a musician and bandleader, but also a disc jockey on LA’s KJAZZ 88.1 FM. He is a performer, as well as a Latin Jazz scholar. And his show, “Jose Rizo’s Jazz on the Latin Side,” has been an LA favorite for over 20 years.

The band’s name, Mongorama, is an homage, taken from the title of a song written by Latin Jazz legends Mongo Santamaria and Cal Tjader. The band frequently reinterprets some of the early jazz works of their heroes (with arrangements by three-time Latin Grammy winner Oscar Hernandez), as well as performing some masterly tunes of their own.

By the way, do you think it is a coincidence that this latest album from Jose Rizo’s Mongorama is released on the birthday of Cal Tjader? Whether yes or no, this album gives enough reason to celebrate!
